History of the Practice

The origins of this practice can be traced to the practice of Dr. Lee F. Dresser, who started practicing in Richmond in 1934. Dr. Barnhart began practicing with Dr. Dresser in 1949. At that time, the office was located at 931 East Main Street. Dr. Barnhart assumed control of the practice when Dr. Dresser retired in 1951. From 1951 to 1974, the practice was located in a 1100 sq. ft. office at 20 South 10th Street. During that time, Dr. Logan joined the practice in the summer of 1969. Dr. Logan was drafted by the Army, and served as an optometrist from 1971 to 1973, returning to Richmond at that time. In 1974, the office moved to it's present location (2519 East Main Street), to a 2200 sq. ft. facility. In 1978, Dr. Bailey joined the practice. In 1983, the office was remodeled and expanded, to 3000 sq. ft. The office was expanded again in December of 1987 to approximately 4,200 sq. ft. Dr. Gregory joined the office in August, 1989. Dr. Barnhart retired in 1992, and Dr. Gregory left in 1995. Learn more about our doctors.
