Services We Provide

Complete examinations
We provide comprehensive eye health and vision examinations for adults and children. Evaluations are conducted to determine not only the presence of refractive (focusing)problems, but to rule out external and internal eye diseases, including cataracts and glaucoma. For this purpose, we have the latest diagnostic equipment. We use the Humphrey Frequency Doubling Technology Visual Field Analyzer to precisely monitor peripheral (side) vision. The computer-assisted examination is a simple, quick test that requires no response from the patient, and yields important information to double-check the patient’s answers. This allows us to be sure the glasses are correct. The non-contact tonometer allows us to measure eye pressure (for glaucoma) without touching the eye, and is done on everyone possible.

To more thoroughly examine the back of the eyes of adults, we often recommend that the pupils be dilated. (If you have not had your pupils dilated previously, we recommend you have a driver available, in case your vision is bothered temporarily by the dilation). A digital fundus camera allows pictures to be taken of the inside of the eye (the retina) to better follow potential eye diseases, and as a baseline to compare over time.

When the eye examination is completed, the doctor studies all the assembled information. He then makes a professional decision on how to give each patient the highest possible visual efficiency. This may take the form of eyeglasses or contact lenses, a recommendation for visual training (eye exercises), a referral to another health care professional, or a clean bill of visual health. The doctor also determines the date for the next eye examination.

Emergencies
Minor eye injuries and diseases are treated. The doctors are on-call 24 hours for emergencies.

Vision and Learning
A large part of learning is done visually. Reading, spelling, writing, board work, and computers are among the tasks that students tackle all day long, day after day. Many students’ visual abilities just aren’t up to the level of demands of these types of learning situations.

Clear eyesight isn’t all that’s required for these close vision tasks. Students must have a variety of scanning, focusing, and visual coordination skills for learning. If these skills have not been developed, learning is difficult and stressful.

We may help some students deal with their visual stress by prescribing “stress-relieving” glasses. These glasses make it much easier for the student to benefit from near work. Another fundamental approach is visual training. This is a sequence of activities prescribed, in which the student builds the visual skills and the ability to efficiently take in, understand, and use visual information.

We offer these visual training and “stress-relieving glasses, as part of our children’s vision services.

Visual Training
Many conditions like crossed-eyes (strabismus) or lazy eye (amblyopia) can be treated with vision therapy. It is an individualized treatment program to help you learn, relearn, or reinforce specific vision skills. Such skills include eye movement control, focusing control, eye coordination, and team-work between the two eyes.

Our vision therapy services have proven to be an effective treatment for many problems that cannot be treated with eyeglasses or contact lenses alone. It can help people see more clearly, efficiently, and comfortably. Success, however, cannot be guaranteed, Much of the improvement depends upon the patient’s willingness to follow the doctor’s instructions. For patients who do so, significant progress toward more efficient and comfortable vision usually results.

Vision and Sports
Have you ever wished you could improve your batting average, lower your golf score, or just play your favorite sport better? If so, you’re like most sports participants. Sharpening your vision skills is one way of improving your “game” and giving yourself a “winning edge.”

There are a number of visual skills that relate to sports performance. Everything from visual acuity (sharpness of vision), dynamic acuity (the ability to clearly see moving objects and players), vision pursuit (to accurately follow/track objects), depth perception, and eye/hand/body coordination all impact sports performance.

Many people are remarkably skillful at adapting to their vision problems or level of vision skills. Others may have good vision skills that enable them to play well but, if sharpened, could help them play even better. We can recommend the proper prescription lenses or design a vision therapy program to maximize your vision skills and help you see better and play better. And always remember to protect your eyes from sports-related injuries, with proper eyewear/protection.

Contact Lens Care
We evaluate and prescribe all types of contact lenses. Our comprehensive services include: initial evaluation, fitting, lens care and handling instructions, follow-up care, and continuing professional care. We carry hundreds of lenses in-office, including soft, gas permeable (daily & extended wear), planned replacement, disposable, tinted, astigmatism, and bifocal lenses, and can replace many lenses the same day. We can modify lenses in-office when needed. The doctors have over 50 years combined experience fitting contact lenses. New techniques and materials allow many previously unsuccessful patients to now wear contact lenses.

Eyeglasses
For the convenience of our patients, we provide a large selection of frames (over 1,000) – from budget to designer frames in all price ranges. You will receive professional guidance to help you select a frame that looks good, fits properly, and is compatible with your prescription. With our Lens Tech area, we can help you choose the best type of lens features to protect your eye and meet your unique visual needs.
If your glasses get broken and cannot be immediately repaired, we offer loaner frames. Whenever possible, we’ll put your lenses into a loaner frame, so that you can get by until your frame can be repaired or replaced. If the loaner frame is returned to us, there is no charge for using it while your glasses are repaired.
We offer a number of products to meet your vision needs during specific activities, such as using a computer, swimming, scuba diving, golf, fishing, shooting, and other outdoor activities.

Dispensing
Each prescription received from the laboratory is checked thoroughly for accuracy of prescription and fabrication exactly as ordered. The Humphrey Lens Analyzer is a computerized instrument that allows us to determine exactly what a patient’s previous prescription is, and makes sure that new prescriptions are accurately filled.

When the prescription is delivered to you, it is adjusted correctly to provide a proper fit. Follow-up care of your glasses is always available at our office. Adjustments are available without an appointment. Eyewear repair and loaner frames are available when needed, so that you need not be without your prescription in most cases.

Appointments
We see patients on an appointment basis Monday – Saturday, with evening hours on Monday. We respect your time and make every effort to remain on schedule. We have set aside time especially for you during your appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible.

We believe in the benefits of regular preventative eyecare, and encourage our patients to return for periodic recall visits. Depending upon the condition of your eyes, we recommend a complete eye examination every one or two years. For your convenience, we will remind you when you are due. However, if your sight changes, or if you notice any visual problems or unusual eye irritations, call us immediately.

Fees & Payments
We offer quality products and service at competitive prices. Don’t look for bargains in parachutes, fire extinguishers, brain surgery, or eyecare. You only get one pair of eyes to last a lifetime.

We realize that vision problems and broken eyewear can occur unexpectedly. It is not always possible to plan ahead to have money saved when care is needed. Therefore, we offer a variety of payment options to help make care affordable. A budget payment plan is available for those who need it. Payments can be spread over three months without interest. As eyewear is custom-made and cannot be used by anyone else, we normally ask for 50% down when materials are ordered, with the balance due at dispensing. We also accept MasterCard, Visa, and Discover credit cards.

Insurance
A number of insurance companies now pay for part of the cost of vision and eyecare. Coverage varies from plan to plan. We are participating providers for Medicare, Medicaid (Indiana), and Vision Service Plan (VSP). Be certain to inform the receptionist of the insurance that you have when making your appointment. If you are on Medicare or Medicaid, be sure to bring your current card.
If you have any questions about your coverage, please ask. We will work with you to find the answer.

Location
As of October 1, 2007, we are located at 2517 East Main Street, across from the Richmond Rose Garden at Glen Miller Park. This is immediately to the west of our previous location. It offers a convenient location, with a large, modern facility designed with your comfort and convenience in mind. It is handicappedaccessible, with no steps between the parking lot and the office. The parking lot is entered from East Main Street.

Other questions
We urge you to contact our office at any time you have questions concerning your eyes.
