About the Doctors

Dr. Jerry W. Logan was born and raised in Winchester, Indiana. He received his Bachelor's of Science degree from Indiana University in 1967, and his Doctor's degree from Indiana's Optometry School in 1969. While in school, he had his thesis paper (on vision in outer space) published in a national optometry magazine. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving an award for his work with children's vision at Womack Army Hospital. In Richmond, he has been president of the Heart Association, the Y.M.C.A., the Kiwanis Club, the Whitewater Valley Optometric Society, and the Indiana University Wayne County Alumni Club. He has also served on the board of the Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, the Forest Hills Country Club, and the United Way. He is currently on the board of the I.U. Wayne County Alumni Club, the I.U. National Executive Council, the I.U. Optometry School Alumni Club, and the I.U. East Board of Advisors. He is married to Terri. They have two sons, Ryan and Greg. His primary hobbies include photography, running, tennis, and I.U. basketball.
Dr. Max E. Bailey is a native of Richmond, Indiana. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 1976. He graduated with honors from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1978. Upon graduation he was awarded the Bausch & Lomb Outstanding Achievement Award for his work with contact lenses, and the Irvin M. Borish Award from the American Optometric Foundation for his paper on ophthalmic photography. He is an alumnus of the second graduating class of Leadership Wayne County, and has served as a board member of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the United Way of Wayne County (including two years as secretary), and the Wayne County Nursing Professional Utilization and Review Board. He is a member of the Richmond Rotary Club, serving as president for the year 1996-97. He currently serves on the board of Civic Hall Associates, helping to guide the use of Civic Hall Performing Arts Center. He volunteers his time as recording engineer, tape recording the Richmond Symphony concerts for rebroadcast on Dayton public radio. He has served one term as president of the Whitewater Valley Optometric Society, and three terms as secretary/treasurer. In December, 1991, he became a member of the prestigious American Academy of Optometry. He is married to Eva, and they have two sons, Travis and Aaron, and one granddaughter, Audrey Dixon. His hobbies include photography, music, audio/video, growing fruit trees, and spending time with Audrey.
Dr.
John O. Barnhart (deceased) was born and raised in Peru, Indiana.
After high school, he attended the International Business College, in Ft.
Wayne, from 1934-1936. After graduation, he was employed by the Goodyear
Tire & Rubber Co. as an office and budget manager. He worked as a traveling
salesman with the Mishawaka Rubber & Woolen Mfg. Co. from 1941 until
being drafted into the Army in October of that year. He served as an administrative
noncommissioned chief clerk in the station hospital with the rank of Master
Sergeant on Hawaii and Okinawa until his discharge in November, 1945. He
attended the Northern Illinois College of Optometry, graduating in 1949.
He was associated in practice with Dr. Lee F. Dresser until Dr. Dresser's
retirement in 1951. Many of the innovations that helped build this practice,
such as telephone recalls, eye health examinations, budget payment plan,
and others, were started by Dr. Barnhart. His local affiliations include
past president of the Scott Boys Club, trustee of the Y.M.C.A., steering
committee of the Y.M.C.A. Health Club; board of directors of the Red Cross,
First Federal Savings & Loan, and the Reid Hospital Foundation, president
of the United Way, trustee of the Indiana Optometric Association, president
of the Whitewater Valley Optometric Society, and member of the Kiwanis.
He retired from active patient care in the fall of 1990, and died in 1992.
